Some individuals want to help other people when they die. One way to do this is by donating your organs. This isn’t always possible, so some people choose to donate their body to science. There are several things to consider if you are thinking of doing this.

One thing that you have to think about is what program is going to get your body. You might decide that you want your body to be used to train doctors, so you would find a program that provides cadavers for medical students. You may want your body to be used to study a medical condition that you suffer from. In this case, you would need to find a research program that could use your body.

Once you know what you want your body used for, you will have to find a program that will take possession of your body when you die. The program would pick your body up from the morgue, use it in the manner intended, cremate your body and return your ashes to your family if your family requests the ashes.

Before you pass away, you should let your family members know about your wish. This is information that might take considerable time to process, so letting them know in advance can lessen the shock. It also gives them time to ask questions so that they can fully understand your wishes.

There are documents that you will have to sign if you do want to donate your body to science. A copy of the documents, as well as other medical directives, are important components in your estate plan.
